Hello my name is Jana Garza. I am originally from Brownville, TX- a small, border town in the southern tip of Texas. I began my nursing career at Houston Baptist University (HBU) in 2000. Soon after starting the part-time nursing program at HBU I transferred to the full time nursing program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science Nursing and Masters in Nurse Practitioner. I became a family nurse practitioner in 2011 and in 2012 I devoted my clinical practice solely to pediatric patients between 0-18 years of age. My clinical areas of interest are childhood obesity, health promotion behaviors, pediatric and adolescent nursing care, and adolescent risk behaviors.
Currently I reside in Houston. I work independently in a pediatric clinic on the northeast side of town during the week. On weekends I spend time doing things that I enjoy and that interest me. On occasion I travel to Brownsville to visit my mother and sister and my beautiful, 21 year old daughter. My daughter and I love to cook and spend a lot of time cooking healthy and fun recipes. When I'm in Houston I attend the Houston Symphony concerts quite often because I absolutely love classical music. I also go to basketball games regularly, even though I am a huge Spurs fan. I am an animal lover; therefore I spend a lot of time at the doggy park at the Buffalo Bayou Park. Aside from the professional organizational memberships that I hold, I am an active member of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and The Humane Society of the United States. I am an animal lover.
